ilk

ilk (ilk), n. 1. of the same name, class, or kind. Aka Doug Cavender

New wave -> Goth -> Industrial -> Blah Blah Blah, THEN… Sometime in 1989 a small station out of San Juan, Puerto Rico plays an 808 State track entitled “Pacific”. The seed was planted. In 5 years time, he will perform his first Live P.A., in the basement of City Spirit Cafe.

ilk began his production ventures back in 1994 using only analogue gear. Most notably a Korg Mono/Poly purchased at a local Denver pawn shop, and a crappy drum machine. Over the years more synths, drum machines, FX machines and eventually, the Macintosh computer would comprise the studio.

The sound is atmospheric-minimal techno, trip hop, nu-breaks and more recently, soundscapes. The focus is on the deeper beats, balanced out with rawness, technical production, and random genius. ilk is a collaborator and engineer for many producers in Colorado. Flying all over the world (for his “real” job) cultivates inspiration to create more of that ilk sound.

Watch out for an upcoming ambient collaboration between the brother’s Cavender called Frequency 23.
